There are lots of ways to redirect a domain name to another domain or subdomain and one of them is by creating a CNAME record. In case you own a domain name and you've created a site using some on-line service which provides you with a service subdomain, you can easily link the two by creating a CNAME record for your-domain.com that points to subdomain.provider.com. What you will achieve in this way is that www.your-domain.com is going to be in the Internet browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned site from the servers of the third-party provider. You should know that if you set up a CNAME record, any other records your domain address may have will stop working, so you cannot have both a CNAME record pointing to one company and functioning email addresses with a different one. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and in some cases additional configuration may be needed with the other provider.
CNAME Records in Shared Hosting
Creating a CNAME record through our shared hosting packages is quite easy. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel includes a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domains, so you can set up a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted within your account in only a few simple steps. You can find a video tutorial inside the same section where you can see the process first-hand. This feature will give you many options - if you set up a company website on our end, for instance, the workers can use their e-mails with the company domain name, not with the address of our mail server. If you decide to set up a website through a different company which offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, if you have an on-line store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you may set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and forward it to the main domain address, so all your customers will be forwarded to a secure URL.
CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you have a semi-dedicated server through our company and you want to create a CNAME record, it will require only a few clicks to complete this task. The plans are managed through our in-house built Hepsia hosting CP where you will discover a section committed to the DNS records of the domain addresses and subdomains hosted inside the account. To create a CNAME record, you will only have to pick the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), type in where the latter will be directed to and save the modification. The new record will be active almost right away in our system and will propagate worldwide within several hours. Modifying or deleting an existing CNAME record within the account is equally simple and easy and takes a click. In the event you experience any issues, you can go through our detailed help article, check out the short video on the subject that we have added in the Control Panel, or simply contact us for assistance.
