SPF, which is an acronym for Sender Policy Framework, is an e-mail safety system, which is designed to verify whether an e-mail message was sent by a certified server. Employing SPF protection for a domain name will stop the counterfeiting of emails created with the domain. In simple words: enabling this feature for a domain name generates a special record in the Domain Name System (DNS) which includes the IP of the servers that are permitted to send emails from mailboxes using the domain. Once this record propagates worldwide, it exists on all the DNS servers that direct the Internet traffic. Every time a new e-mail message is sent, the initial DNS server it uses tests whether it originates from an official server. When it does, it is forwarded to the destination address, but when it does not come from a server listed in the SPF record for the domain, it's rejected. In this way nobody can mask an email address then make it look as if you are sending spam messages. This approach is also identified as email spoofing.
